BEOWULF: Age of Heroes

BEOWULF has surpassed another milestone in its quest for America! The books have cleared customs and should be ready to ship to the warehouse. We are hoping for another update to come soon, indicating that they’re on the way but we also know that there are challenges in this aspect of shipping too so we don’t want to speak out of turn.

Game Development Progress

We have begun the editing process on the completed sections of the manuscript as development is wrapping up. Production is ongoing for the add-ons and it’s all coming together for a timely delivery .

We anticipate PDF release in December, and remain on track for a June 2022 release.

About the Game

If you’ve been interested in a|state this is your opportunity to join us in The City. Take on roles like the Ghostfighter, the Lostfinder, the Activist, and the Sneakthief to defend your part of the city from selfish authorities, angry gangs and heartless industries, and deal with the spiralling consequences of your own actions as you struggle for a better tomorrow. And there’s lots of amazing things for a|state being worked on right now.

Add-ons: Received Prints and Production Notes

We’ve received the print run for The Three Coins, a roleplaying game that exists in the City. We also have production notes and diagrams from our friends at Campaign Coins, showing us how they’re going to produce the compass and the coins.

Forest Dragon Farmer

We’ve received some very good news on Forest Dragon Farmer that has unlocked the potential for us to offer a level of production quality that we just didn’t have access to with earlier card game releases. We’ll have a big announcement for you, very soon!

BEOWULF

Will you be visiting family and friends over the upcoming holidays? Maybe you’ve got one special relation that you’ve always wanted to introduce to fantasy roleplaying but the logistics of putting together a big game would never work out? BEOWULF: Age of Heroes is designed for one player and one gamemaster. You can download the free introductory scenario The Hermit’s Sanctuary or order it Print On Demand. As long as you’re familiar with 5e, you can run the adventure by itself.

Orkenspalter TV recently featured BEOWULF in a review/skit. We asked a fan who’s a bit more proficient in German to give us the scoop and here’s what we heard back:

The scenario [The Three Ogre Brothers] reminds one of classical faerie tales, and would work well in other settings…

…Now we come to our favorite rule: The Hero always gets a spear – regardless of where one is. Either it’s given to them, there’s one lying around, or it’s improvised…

Beowulf is rich with fascinating, lively (or living), genre-setting mythology; the text is authentic and the pictures create such a fantastic atmosphere, that you just have to try it. We give it an 8.5 out of 10.

What a fun review!

As for our American shipment, the transportation fog remains strong. We know that the shipment arrived in Miami some time ago, and we have a mysterious message regarding paperwork dated in October, but things are still unclear. We know that there’s a tremendous backlog right now, and we’re still hoping for a bright ray of clarity to shine on us any day now. Or we’ll take a surprise truck visit.

Time for the news! We’ve got news for you on BEOWULF, Forest Dragon Farmer, Handimonsters and A|State.

A|State Pledge Manager Is Now Open!

The A|State Pledge Manager is open now. If you’ve been interested in A|State this is your opportunity to join the project and join us in The City. A|State is a game about improving your small slice of a dystopian urban landscape, using a custom Forged in the Dark ruleset that makes caring about your fellow Troublemakers as important as anything else.

We have ordered the production runs of The Three Coins and associated metal coins, the compass and the playmat so everything is in process.

Final development is in progress and the project remains on track for a June 2022 release.

Work continues on The Triple Serpent from Gareth Hanrahan. Here’s a quick sneak peek!

With The Triple Serpent, we will have completed our commitments for the stretch goals from the Kickstarter. However, we don’t have any intention of stopping BEOWULF development. We’re currently investigating our options, including a subscription model, like we use for Handimonsters. Let us know what you would like: respond on our socials, or visit our Discord.

For shipping news, we have not yet received any more updates, so it seems like the books are still in Miami. We realise this is very frustrating but we also know that everyone is working as hard as they can to clear the backlog and we’re hoping to learn any day that they’re on their way to the warehouse.

We reaching our first anniversary with the Handimonsters project soon and we’ve got a special announcement coming soon. We are also wrapping up our releases for Legions of Autumn with our latest release, the Lord of Autumn themself!

And Monday releases will continue – we have one more member of the Legions to release, then a couple more Dungeon Constructs, another Member of the Wildfolk (plus bonus material to use them as player-character origins) and a special end-of-November (and our production year) release of a BEOWULF: Age of Heroes monster that also makes a dangerous foe for Handimonsters!

A|State Pledge Manager Opening Thursday!

The A|State Pledge Manager will open later this week, allowing you to update your address, add on items to existing pledges or to make a late pledge if you weren’t able to join us when the Kickstarter was running. We’ll send out a project update as soon as the pledge manager goes live.

Work continues on finished up the rulebook and adding on the stretch goals.

In shipping news for our US backers, we did receive a post-dated status change from the shipper, letting us know that the books are now with the Customs office in Miami, Florida. So there is some progress, as haphazard as it may seem and hopefully we will see the books arrive to our warehouse soon.

A|State Pledge Manager Coming!

We are in the process of making final arrangements to open up the pledge manager very soon. That will allow you to make a late pledge in order to receive a copy of A|State or allow you to add on items to your existing order, like the fantastic looking Three Coins booklet:

We’ll have more information to come very soon on the pledge manager. Work continues apace, with more writers turning in their ideas to expand The City.

Forest Dragon Farmer

The Forest Dragon holds a very special place in our hearts, as Rory (one of our junior designers, then age 9) took the lead on developing, illustrating, and testing a card game of his own (award-winning) design.

The Forest Dragon Farmer is the next step in the saga of the Forest Dragon. You’re now retired from a life of adventuring and trying to succeed as a farmer. To do so, you need to collect the proper sets of seeds, fields, and helpers while avoiding setbacks! It’s a game of fun and strategy, and expect to hear more about Forest Dragon Farmer soon.

BEOWULF

Ear of Stone is our latest adventure release, and Digital Pack 4 is the most recent release with help on BEOWULF combat, inspirational material for character creation, three new music tracks and two brand new battle maps in a variety of formats. See the BEOWULF shop for all of our offerings.

We are hard at work getting The Triple Serpent by Gar Hanrahan ready for release. It should be with backers towards the end of the month. We’re still hoping for the end of Shipocalypse any day now!

Handy Monsters for Any Adventure!

When we launched Handimonsters just about a year ago, the name we choose was not just about making a clever play on our company name, it was a commitment to providing useful and interesting monsters for gamemasters and players. And to provide an excellent value to our customers.

We always have at least one free release each month, usually the first Monday of the month. For September, it was the Sly One, the first of our Wildfolk!

Everyone received the statblock for free, but our Level Three patrons got not only the statblock but a digital art print, VTT tokens (both face-down and a portrait token) and printable paper minis.

Speaking of the printable paper minis, we think that they can be an easy and fast way to provide lots of options for tabletop gaming while remaining a great deal and easy to assemble.

The next monster we released was the Flammifer, which introduced our Dungeon Constructs line:

We think they’re a lot of fun — they’re monsters that resemble ordinary objects you might find in a dungeon but prove to be dangerous themselves.

Patrons not only get helpful printable minis for play at the gaming table, but tokens to use when communicating online. We always offer a portrait version and a top-dow

Finally, we often have a bonus monster, another free release. We usually do this when there are five Mondays in a month. The bonus monsters often tie into our BEOWULF: Age of Heroes game. Because they are extra, they usually don’t come with miniatures, tokens, or digital art prints.

This month’s free release was in celebration of Fat Bear Week and was just an extra that we decided to add on for the month.

Big Dice for Big Heroes

If you’re looking for the sort of 20-sided die that will impress your friends or for a stocking-stuffer for that special roleplayer in your life, our 31mm BEOWULF dice will do the trick. They’re 60% bigger than the standard d20 and come as a set of three. You can, of course, use them in any game that needs a twenty-sided die:

The Dice of a Hero

In BEOWULF, every character is a hero. And a hero deserves a big, chonky heroic die.

Wyrd Dice in BEOWULF: Age of Heroes

In our 5e-based duet adventure game BEOWULF: Age of Heroes, each character has a Wyrd, a special heroic fate that belongs to them. This ties into their alignment (do they believe in the Old Ways? Or the new Church?), inspiration, and advantage. When they roll with advantage one of the dice that they roll is their alignment die.

A roll with the Hero’s die and the Old Ways die. When the Hero rolls with advantage they add their alignment die. If they pick their alignment die to be the result they get inspiration. This allows a lucky hero to possibly roll with advantage several times in a row. And, being the only character in the game, they well may need that luck!

A less lucky result. BEOWULF heroes are allowed to pick which die they want to use when they roll with advantage. So a player could take the natural 1 this round and still gain inspiration for later use. A tough choice!

BEOWULF: Age of Heroes

Following the release of Ear of Stone last week, Digital Pack 4 is available to buy now. It includes a discussion of BEOWULF combat, inspirational material for character creation, three new music tracks and two brand new battle maps in a variety of formats. We are hard at work getting The Triple Serpent by Gar Hanrahan ready for release. It should be with backers this month, with a Monster that’s just right for Halloween time! And we have some bigger projects in progress that we will be ready to talk about soon.

Work continues on integrating all of the new material into the existing text and making sure it all plays nice together.
