Friday News Update – and THE THREE COINS is unlocked!

Our £29k a|state stretch goal, THE THREE COINS, is a game within the game, an in-situ RPG played by the denizens of The City.

If you’ve ever been a concept gamer, or if you love old gaming ‘zines and their style, or if you really want to uncover how your characters think and feel and react, how they interact with the City, and what the setting reflects about the characters themselves – then this is your moment of insight. Fully existing within the a|state campaign setting, THE THREE COINS is our RPG Inception.

Friday News Update – March 12th

And first up – our MAP TILES are back in stock!

Map Tiles

Find these in the Handiwork Games store and on DriveThru, and this includes all of our big Tiles Bundles, to bring every kind of adventure to your tabletop. And don’t forget, our Digital Map Packs – ideal for your VTT games – are still on SALE.

Next up – congratulations!

This goes to Simon H J Williams, who’s won himself a print copy of The Hermit’s Sanctuary, complete with original sketch by Jon. Which is winging its way, even as we speak.

If you didn’t win this one, worry not – there will be more competitions soon…

The Hermit’s Sanctuary

To follow The Hermit’s Sanctuary adventure, join the Campaign Coins team, over on Twitch. This week, the fifth instalment sees our Hero, Bald Eadig, get to grips with ‘Baleful Grief’ – and we hear rumours that the Eadig/Thormund/Saewine love triangle may be heating up…

Stat a Hero of your own, with this week’s podcast! Those all-round-renowned RPG geniuses (genii?) Jon and Jacob talk you through the first part of creating your Beowulf Hero character, so they’re armed and ready to… erm… break benches.

If you’d rather listen, you can also find it on Spotify and on anchor.fm.

A Hero, of course, needs an adventure. Make your awareness checks for Horror at Herrogate, a new full-length BEOWULF scenario coming up at DriveThru – very soon!

Horror at Herrogate

If you backed the original Kickstarter, your Hero gets their Horrors for free – we will send you the .pdf next week.

In the meantime – all you painters! We’re delighted to share the skills of the wonderful Sonic Sledgehammer Studio, making a gorgeous job of our white metal minis. Chosen by Sonic’s fans, the Hero Ibn Uthman is first for the brush. Once a trader and writer, he was exiled for using his prodigious ability with words – and returning to Baghdad was no longer an option.

Check out Sonic’s awesome painting…

Pop over to our friends at GeekNative for a chance to win our Bang & Twang card game. It’s fast and fun and easy to learn, great for kids and an ideal family game – but look out for the Forest Dragon!

Chomp.

In more of this week’s news, Jon was a guest over at The Smart Party’s RPG Podcast, talking about The One Ring, BEOWULF, The Forest Dragon, a|state and much more. Thanks to Gaz and the team for a great interview!

Jon Hodgson interview

Back at Handiwork, we had a chat of our own – with top game designer Jacob Rodgers. Co-creator of our BEOWULF intro-adventure The Hermit’s Sanctuary, Jacob told us how he made the adventure work for one player and one GM, how to GM a really good campaign, and he answered that ever-pertient question: how do you make your players follow the adventure, and not go off on a tangent?

Find Jacob’s interview, here.

Friday News Update – November 6th

Your chance to win a WODEN COIN!

We have a very small number – nine, suitably enough – of what we’re calling Woden Coins.

These are our BEOWULF inspiration tokens. Made from electroplated zinc alloy, they’re good and heavy, all of the shiny, and they make gorgeous props for your game. They’d normally have four red gems…

…but on a Woden Coin, one wyrm’s eye is missing.

To celebrate the closing of our BEOWULF late pledges, this month, we thought we’d run a prize draw (or three) for you to scoop your very own.

Beowulf: Age of Heroes

Now’s also the perfect time to have a look at our BEOWULF intro-adventure, The Hermit’s Sanctuary. Nominated for two ENnie Awards, this has been specially adapted for one player and one GM, meaning it’s the perfect place to get a game going.

Enjoy a new (old) adventure, based on one of the most timeless tales of all.

The Hermit’s Sanctuary

And – IT’S A SIGN!!!

Yes, we have moved office, meaning we have dedicated spaces for creative work, storing stock and processing your orders! Jon put up a magical sign this week, guaranteed* to keep dragons and bandits out, and our treasures safe from harm.

*We think. We haven’t seen a dragon yet. Or any bandits, come to that.

And a quick reminder that we’ve got some awesome settings for your next Zoom call. Journey to The City with our a|state backgrounds, two of them animated. Pay what you like, over at DriveThruRPG.

Woden Coin Competition

We have a very small number – nine, suitably enough – of what we’re calling ‘Woden Coins‘.

These are our BEOWULF inspiration tokens. Made from electroplated zinc alloy, they’re good and heavy, all of the shiny, and make gorgeous props for your game. And they’d normally have four red gems…

…but on a Woden Coin, one wyrm’s eye is missing!

Out of more than a thousand coins, these nine must be pretty special.

So, to celebrate the closing of our BEOWULF late pledges, this month, we thought we’d run prize draw (or three), for you to scoop your very own.

Head to our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts to be in with your chances to win!

Bang & Twang World Cup!

Announcing the Inaugural international Bang & Twang World Cup!

This prestigious event is being held for the very first time in Perth, Scotland, coincidentally in the very same venue as Tabletop Scotland 2019! Amazing!

Anyone who plays a demo of Bang & Twang is automatically entered into the Bang & Twang World Cup, and their score will be recorded. The highest score on Saturday will win a prize and a much-coveted certificate.

And on Sunday we’re delighted to be hosting the SECOND international Bang & Twang World Cup! Again, every demo game will have its score recorded and a winner will be crowned at the end of the day.

All contenders will get a “I’m a contender” sticker to wear with pride.

To find out more about Bang & Twang here: https://handiwork.games/bangandtwang

Please note: Bang & Twang produces a limited range of scores and so there may be a need for a tie-break event, or the international judging committee may rule on the winner. Their decision is as final as it is arbitrary. But a kid will probably win it.

Common sense and fair play dictates only one entry per person is allowed in the Bang & Twang World Cups.
